Pep Squad wins two titles at USA Nationals

The Bishop Amat Song Team and Pep Squad are killing it on the mats.

Two weeks ago, the Bishop Amat Pep Squad and Song Team took home first place in the small intermediate song/ pom division at USA Nationals in Anaheim, California.

In addition, Both the song team and cheer team came in first in the Fight Song Division.

There is no doubt that the girls had to work extremely hard to achieve this goal.

“We talked about our goals and a certain quote in the bible that talks about rising together and we reflected on what it meant to us,” said Hannah Conchas, a senior captain on the song team.

According to Conchas, the competition days consisted of a very long and tiring process.

“So, when we found out we won, all of us were really excited and we really couldn’t believe that we were in first place,” she said. “Throughout the season, we were having a really hard time and it was a really long struggle but in the end, we came out on top.”

Junior Jazlynne Sanchez said she was afraid their last time performing in a competition as a team would be a failure.

“On the first day during prelims, there was one more team that needed to be called and we didn’t hear our name and we were all crying because we thought that it was going to be the last time that we were going to compete,” she said. “And then they called Bishop Amat first finalist and it was so crazy.”

Although this is the last time the girls will be performing at a competition, there are still many sporting events and the Spring Rally for them to perform as a team.
