LA PUENTE – The Lady Lancer Soccer Season came to an end on a somber note with their first defeat of the season in the CIF Semifinal game.
The Del Rey League Champions fell to a score of 1-0 in the eleventh minute of the game against Sultana High from Hesperia. The goal was too far out of reach of goalkeeper Nicole Ragano.
The next hour of competition was tough, but Amat never relented. Lancer pressure was evident as most of the game was concentrated just outside Sultana’s goal.
However, several failed attempts to set up shots to the goal prevented an answer to the initial score.
After regulation time elapsed, the team came to the realization that this would be their final game in Kiefer Stadium. One game short of CIF recognition, the seniors on the team took a moment to reflect upon their high school careers midfield with their captain Ashley Goodwin.
The conclusion of the best season that Amat soccer has seen in years left many looking forward. Senior Jasmine Roth will be advancing to NCAA I competition at Arizona State and lead scorer April Juarez will be returning to Amat as a junior next season.
Coach Gonzalez’s work as head coach with such a young team leaves more to be accomplished next year.
