Lancers win on a last-second field goal, this time

SHERMAN OAKS — Last week, the Lancers found themselves victim of a last-second field goal. On Friday night, a last-second field goal lifted the Lancers to their first league win of the season.

On Friday night Bishop Amat’s kicker Shazel Mansour-Sakr nailed a 29-yard field goal turn out to be the game winner.

The Lancers won Friday’s game by a score of 17-14. The Lancers are now 4-2 and 1-1 in league play.

Sophomore quarterback Blake Archuleta continues to improve as he threw for 258 yards.

Late in the third quarter, with Lancers down seven, linebacker Matthew Gonzales stripped the Notre Dame running back of the football and returned it for a touchdown.

However, the Lancers offense had struggled all night. The defense though was able to hold Notre Dame to only 14 points.

Late in the fourth, the Lancers had the ball at the Notre Dame 33 yard line. On fourth down the Lancers were stopped and turned the ball over to Notre Dame.

On Notre Dame’s very next play the Lancers tipped a pass and picked it off.

With 5 seconds left in the game, kicker Shazel Mansour-Sakr nailed a 29-yard field goal to win the game for the Lancers.

The Lancers travel to Crespi High School where will looking for their second Mission League victory.
