Bishop Amat students woke up Monday morning to the sounds of raindrops falling.
It was the first time this school year that it rained and feelings were mixed about the cold, wet weather.
“I thought it was annoying because there was lots of slow traffic on the freeway,” senior Angel Rodriguez said. “I like the rain, but I hate being outside because there’s not many covered areas at lunchtime to stay dry.”
Senior Chris Estanislao said he didn’t like driving in the rain.
“I bought a new part for my car and I was scared that the rain was going to mess it up,” he said. “Driving home was scary. But I got home safely.”
A few classrooms sprung leaks with the rain.
In Room 109, there was a huge leak, and when the maintenance man came to patch it, the water came rushing down as soon as he touched the ceiling. Fortunately the water did not splash onto the computers.
Students spent lunchtime in classrooms or in wings to shelter themselves from the cold and persistent rain.
“I went to class with my hair wet and I felt cold,” junior Chelsey Martinez said. “It was just a really cold day.”
“My feet were wet all day and my toes were numb,” senior Robert Casillas said. “It sucked.”
Even though the rain made everything hectic somehow many people still enjoyed it.
Some students huddled together with their friends to keep warm.
Others brought warm food to eat and went straight home to relax.
The rain kept everyone inside.
Students mentioned the positive aspects of the rain.
“I like wearing extra clothes,” senior Daniel Arnold said. “I wear my school sweatshirt and a jacket on cold days.”
Some students made plans for the weekend, but there was a second storm.
Senior Catalina Cabral went to a party on Saturday night.
“I was outside and the guy had tents set up all over the yard so I stayed dry,” she said. “I curled my hair which was really dumb because by the end of the night I had wavy hair. But either way it didn’t matter because I still had fun.”
Other students stayed home to avoid the rain.
Junior Alex Lucio decided to sleep most of the weekend.
Junior Chelsey Martinez went to a football game on Friday.
“It was difficult to dress for the rainy weather,” she said. “I felt uncomfortable and it made it hard to go out.”
While the first storms of the season have passed, they left behind a white sheet of snow in the mountains that overlook Bishop Amat.
