LA PUENTE — Before the crowd could blink, the Bishop Amat Lancers led the Junipero Serra Lions 21-0.

The Lancers eventually defeated the Lions 35-28, but not before J Serra made a strong comeback tying the game at 28 early in the fourth quarter. This is the Lancers second win versus a Trinity League and Pac-5 team.

The Lancers offense had a much better outing against the Lions after producing just seven points in last week’s win against Servite.

Led by junior Dominic Barrera, the running game finally got on track. Barrera rushed 15 times for 94 yards and added one reception for 51 yards. Senior Andrew Perez ran for two touchdowns for Amat.

Sophomore quarterback Blake Archuletta, who didn’t start the game, had a solid performance going 7-14 for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Jarren Ford had four catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

In the first quarter, the defense came up with two interceptions that led to touchdowns. Senior cornerback Nick Losoya returned one for a touchdown.

“I trusted my technique and was able to get the pick and I wanted to take it back to the crib,” Losoya said after the game.

Late in the fourth quarter with the Lions threatening to tie the game again, but the Lancers were able to come up with a key fourth down stop to secure the win.

The Lancers travel to rival St. Paul next week. It will be the Lancers last game before they start league play.
