On the day of college visits, I took advantage and visited Cal State Long Beach.
Most Cal States are impacted and I better understood what “impacted” would mean for me.
Impacted means that I must be committed to my work, so that I can have priority to get the classes I need.
I can’t take any short cuts, but be committed to my classes.
Cal State Long Beach is absolutely amazing. Considering I love the sun, it is three miles from the beach, which is really convenient.
Not only that, but The Beach’s tuition is affordable. In fact, it’s less expensive to go to this university than it is to go to Amat.
I scheduled a guided tour and the tour guide (who was really hot) really showed me a lot about the school and taught me some interesting facts.
Students at The Beach are really attentive and friendly. It almost seems like Amat just ten times bigger.
(And did I my mention my tour guide was hot?)
Most freshmen in college have a car or think they need one to get by, but at The Beach that isn’t needed.
There is a campus bus that can take you around town, wherever you need to go, whether that’s the supermarket or the nearest mall or even if it is just around the corner.
I also learned about the major that I would like to pursue.
I want to major in child development and I want to become a child psychologist.
I enjoy helping others, especially kids and I believe this career suits me considering I am a chatterbox who loves giving advice.
In the Child Development Center, there is a child day care where students or professors can leave their children to be babysat. Students studying this field have the privilege to interact with these kids.
The main library is located on campus and is six stories tall.
In the center of the library there is a floor, which was made to be more relaxed, that is all glass. On one side you can see Catalina Island and the other The Queen Mary can be seen.
Most colleges are like small towns where everything is there when you want it and when you need it.
Cal State long Beach has everything at your hands—from a food court, to a Wells Fargo, to a gym, to a movie theater.
I learned that a few decades ago, a famous filmmaker attended CSULB after being rejected from USC.
That filmmaker was Steven Spielberg who eventually quit college because he believed it was too difficult and felt he could no longer go on.
It seems he made a good choice.
In 2002, he reenrolled to finish college.
He wanted to show students a good example and show us that college is important.
I’m not sure if I’ll eventually attend The Beach, but just going on the tour gave me a better understanding of what to expect in a few short months.
