LA PUENTE – Senior Jalen Moore led the Bishop Amat Lancers with five touchdowns as they defeated the La Mirada Matadores, 49-13, Friday night at Kiefer Stadium.
The Lancers looked to bounce back from last week’s 49-14 loss against Servite and did so by dominating the Matadores.
La Mirada drove the ball 40 yards and controlled the ball for about 7 minutes in the game’s first possession, but turned the ball over on downs to the Lancers.
On the Lancers’ first possession, Moore ran for 24 yards to score the first touchdown of the game.
However, on the ensuing kickoff the Matadores offense could not change the momentum. Lancer senior quarterback Rio Ruiz threw a screen to Moore for a long gain of 39 yards to the Matadores’ 30 yard line.
The Lancers would then score three touchdowns in the second quarter.
Senior Adam Sanchez scored on a 46-yard pass from Ruiz. And then Moore scored with a 5- and 69-yard run.
Moore ran for 187 yards on 11 carries in the first half.
On the first play of the third quarter, Moore ran another 45 yards, leading to a yet another Moore touchdown.
The Matadores still could not gain enough momentum to put the ball in the endzone.
Moore ran for a 46-yard touchdown the next series.
La Mirada would score at the end of the third quarter, but Sanchez returned the kickoff for 89 yards to the 2-yard line. Dionza Blue would score the next play.
La Mirada would score another touchdown, but failed the two-point conversion.
Sophomore Koa Haynes replaced Ruiz to finish the game.
Next week the Lancers travel to La Verne to face the Damien Spartans.
