After a 14-0 defeat against the Garfield Bulldogs last week, the Bishop Amat Lancers football team will travel to compete against the Servite Friars, the No. 2 team in the state, this Friday night at Cerritos College.
Last week Amat’s defense carried the team as the offense struggled against the Bulldogs.
On offense, senior Jalen Moore scored the first touchdown of the game and senior Zachary Shay scored the final touchdown in the late fourth quarter.
Moore ran for 106 yards on 15 carries to lead the Lancers offense, while on defense, junior D.J. Daniels led the Lancers with four tackles, including two sacks.
Servite also shutout their opponents last Friday night, defeating the Oceanside Pirates, 20-0.
The Friars are ranked fourth in the nation, according to MaxPreps.
They are led by three-year starting linebacker Butch Pau’u , quarterback Cody Pittman and a huge offensive line.
In last week’s win, the Friars rushed behind their offensive line for 268 yards, including 114 from junior running back Charlie Etiaki.
However, the Lancers should receive a boost this week after news came out that senior star quarterback Rio Ruiz will concentrate only on football for the rest of the season, bypassing an opportunity to play baseball for the U.S. Under-18 team in Colombia in November.
Ruiz sat out the first quarter of last week’s game after he missed some football practices the previous week, which prompted Lancer coaches to start sophomore Koa Haynes.
