Varsity football players left Thursday morning to Aledo Texas to play against a traditional Texas powerhouse team, with many members of the Amat community in doubt of their ability to triumph.

Shocking the Amat community, and the state of Texas, they returned with a victorious win of 42-7.

“I was surprised. Everyone was telling us that they were a really good team. Then we went out there and smashed them,” said strong safety Rashad Richard.

Before leaving, extra determination to focus mentally and physically was made in order to prepare themselves.

“The preparation we took before leaving was a lot of prayer, hard work, and practice,” said safety Josh Soto.

The effect of winning not only made the excursion worth the time and dedication, but also uplift their spirits for the upcoming season.

“We knew going in, that they were a good team,” said nose guard Josh Sapien. “So it will help us going into other games we play later on in the season.”

Ranked No. 1 in state in Division 5, the team is traditionally an elite team in Texas.

Their reputation was shortly lived until Anthony Camargo scored the first of six unanswered touchdowns.
