As the Class of 2009 continues to prepare for this Friday’s Commencement ceremony, they came back to participate in the Senior Awards Assembly at the Carroll Center.
At the assembly, various students were awarded plaques, cords, stoles and overall recognition for their efforts throughout their years at the school, including their endless accomplishments for academics, sports leadership and overall character.
This was one of several final week ceremonies for the seniors.
The reminiscing has already begun for some.
“Don’t ever let drama get in the way of friendships,” senior David Lopez said. “I don’t want to say the cliché words but, high school is too short and it truly does go by fast so don’t take it for granted.”
Many of the seniors were very anxious to graduate but others like Andrew Encinas said they felt hesitant.
“I am going to miss this place more than anything,” he said. “I have memories of this school since I was 5-years-old. I can never forget the great teachers here at Amat.”
The ceremony ended with the Teacher of the Year award, which was presented by last year’s winner Mr. Chris Beck.
Mr. Sean Koelle walked away with the honor this year.
“I feel completely honored but when they called my name I had no idea what I was going to say up there,” he said. “My mind got all fuzzy and I didn’t expect it at all.”
Mr. Mark Verti, one of Mr. Koelle’s closest on-campus friends, said that the seniors were wise in choosing the religion teacher.
“The teacher award he received was well deserved and a great honor,” said Mr. Verti, who won the award before. “The seniors this were great, very well rounded students and I hope they the college experience before they have to venture out into the real world.”
