After a whopping 34-14 victory over the Muir Mustangs last Friday night, the Bishop Amat Lancers look to continue their success against rival Damien at Kiefer Stadium tonight.
While many people assumed that the Lancers would remain undefeated, the Spartans 2-0 record comes as a bit of a surprise.
The Spartans last game was a blowout, with them defeating Chaffey, 35-0.
There is a lot of hype around this game because of trash talking between the two schools on Facebook, and there is suspected to be a large crowd for both the Lancers and Spartans.
The Lancers offense will continue to turn to junior running backs Zachary Shay and Jaylen Moore, who have accounted for most of the Lancers’ offense the last two weeks. While the Lancers defense will to look for seniors Michael Juarez and Julian Gener to continue disrupted offenses in the backfield as they’ve done the first three games of the season.
The Spartans offense will be led by junior quarterback Enrique Zaldivar and senior running back Daniel Covarrubias, both of whom have scored the majority of the Spartans’ points. The Spartans defense is relying on senior Linebacker Griffin Lord to stop the Lancers’ running game.
However, the Lancers will have to play without senior cornerback Martin Sandoval, who is ailing from hyper extension and is awaiting an MRI.
In the Lancers last game, a series of long plays and big stops on defense earned them a 34-14 win over the Muir Mustangs (1-2).
