LA PUENTE–Bishop Amat celebrated the three hundred and thirty seniors who graduated at the Fifty-Second Annual Commencement Ceremony at Kiefer Stadium on Friday night.
It was not only a celebration for the seniors, but also a celebration of the 44 years of principal Dr. Meritt Hemenway’s work.
Dr. Hemenway opened the ceremony with a speech of his own, speaking about the “plus experiences” that have helped make his career better.
Christopher Gonzalez, attending University of Cincinnati in the fall, served as the salutatorian for the Class of 2012.
Gonzalez greeted the families and thanked them for their unending support.
“Class of 2012, we have made history,” he said in his speech. He spoke of the many accomplishments that his classmates have achieved, including the class’ collective $10 million in scholarships.
After the Lancer choir sang “You’ll Be in My Heart,” valedictorian Byron Maltez delivered his closing speech.
Maltez mentioned his favorite teacher, Dr. Seuss, and spoke about the underlying truth behind the children’s books.
