ANAHEIM–The Bishop Amat Lady Lancers dominated the Oak Park Eagles, 44-30, at the Anaheim Convention Center, taking home the CIF Division IIIA championship title Wendesday.
The Lancers took control of the game immediately. After an early 5-0 run by the Lancers five minutes into the first quarter, the Eagles were finally able to score.
By the end of the first quarter Amat had started to dominate the Eagles leading 15-10.
At the start of the second quarter the Lady Lancers maintained momentum with three-pointers from senior Kaysee Tayag, senior Michelle Yamamoto and junior Janae Chamois.
The Eagles’ Kelsey Haynes was able to hit a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer making the Knights’ only points of the quarter to stop Amat’s 12-0 run. Amat led 25-13 at the half.
Throughout the third quarter, the Lancers defense shut down the Eagles’ offense. Junior Leeah Powell had an aggressive game and helped Amat’s defense limit the Eagles to just five points to start the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles scored seventeen points with just under two minutes left. However, the Lancers held on to the ball to run down the final seconds on the clock.
The Lady Lancers won Bishop Amat’s fifth championship since 1999 with a victory of 44-30.
