The girls have put a lot of time, effort, and sacrifice and have made it into the CIF Playoffs, which begin this Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College.
The girls race at 7:45 a.m.
The Lady Lancers said they are preparing themselves mentally and physically to earn a chance in CIF Finals and bring home a banner to hang inside the gym.
The Lady Lancers Cross Country Team placed second in the Del Rey League.
Their team is made up of freshman star Emily Hubert, senior Elizabeth Navarrete, junior Vivien Arredondo, sophomore Anyssa Rodarte, freshman Karina Garnica and junior Savannah Fimbres.
Hubert is Amat’s best runner and is ranked in the top 100 in the state. At Del Rey League Finals, she finished her three-mile race in 17 minutes and 35 seconds, an Amat record at Santa Fe Dam.
Hubert placed first in league finals, while Navarrete finished sixth and Arrdeondo came in tenth.
“We’re a young team with a lot of talented runners, and we’re only gonna get better from here,” Fimbres said. “We’re hoping to make it to the next round, Southern Section Finals.”
Hubert said she is focused on making it far in CIF individually or with her team and believes they will get better each race.
“I think we can make it to state if we really try,” she said.
To make it far in CIF the girls said they are practicing harder than ever before, running more miles, while picking up there speed to beat the competition.
Before every big race the girls have a routine of eating healthy to get their bodies ready and energized to run their best. They also take time mentally visualizing the race and getting into a groove.
The girls are very confident going into the meet and believe that they have an advantage over the other runners.
“Our team has a lot of drama but were all really close like a family,” Hubert said.
But they feel they could use some additional help.
“We could use some Amat support at our meet,” said Fimbres.
