Bishop Amat’s “Twelve Angry Jurors” brought in the numbers for the 2011 fall production.
On opening night, Friday, October 14, a thrilled and very anxious audience filled the entire Performing Art Building.
For almost two months, Bishop Amat Drama Club members prepared themselves for a great outcome.
The scenario of the play is based off a young man who is accused of murdering his father with twelve jurors are trying to find a verdict. Throughout their deliberation, not a single juror can agree because they’re battling their own inner demons and factors such as discrimination against the defendant’s ethnicity, background information, and the elements that make him.
There were many intense scenes almost involving fist duals and had the audience gasping for air. Two of the jurors, seniors Chris Cordova and Greg Lima always bumped heads causing conflicts to the verdict, but in the end they agreed and the verdict is not-guilty.
Senior Lisette Gonzales tittered with excitement before and after her performance on stage.
“There were several moments when I heard the audience laugh and gasp and that makes the actors feel they are doing a good job,” said Gonzales. “We get all our energy from the audience and they had great vibes and energy.”
Bishop Amat’s theater director, Mrs. Carol Busser, was impressed with the actors’ performances.
“The kids and the stage crew outdid themselves as usual,” she said. “With only a short amount [of time] to prepare, we did excellent.”
Bishop Amat’s “Twelve Angry Jurors” had a successful opening night, and Mrs. Busser was extremely pleased with the outcome.
“There was a full house on opening night and the audience had a great vibes,” she said.
