Lady Lancers Continue Winning Ways
The Lady Lancers defeated Mary Star of the Sea in four matches at the Carroll Center on Monday.
The first match was an easy win with a score of 25-16, but unfortunately the Lady Lancers, the same couldn’t be said about the second match after they lost, 19-25.
The Lancers struggled in the third match, but pulled out a 25-23 victory, and then came back to crush them, 25-14, in the last set to win the game.
On offense, senior Megan Bowcock dominated once again with 13 kills, along with junior Nobles’s three assists .
Senior Lelaini Hobayan made 17 digs and junior Delaney Gurol was close behind with 15.
The Lady Lancers travel to face the Bishop Montgomery Knights, which will determine second place in the Del Rey League and CIF seedings.
Sept. 24 – Valley Christian Tournament
Whittier Christian Knocks of the Lady Lancers in VC Tourney
After winning their first two games in the Valley Christian Tournament last weekend, the Whittier Christian Heralds knocked the Lady Lancers off their pedestal.
In the first game of the day, the Lady Lancers, led by senior Michelle Combes’s six attacks and four kills, defeated the Montebello Oilers, 2-0.
The Lady lancers defeated the La Mirada Matadores in three sets in their second match of the day.
Behind only two points, the Lancers lost the first set 24-26, but managed to win 25-19 in the second.
They crushed La Mirada, 15-9, in the last set.
With three assists and 11 kills on offense, junior Jillian Nobles contributed to the win.
On defense, senior Megan Bowcock and Junior Delaney Gurol dominated. Bowcock made 17 digs with Gurol right behind her with 11.
However, this was the Lady Lancers last win of the day.
Against Whittier Christian of La Habra, the Lancers fell in two sets. The first set was close with a score of 25-27, but were blown out in the second set, 9-25.
In a one-set playoff match against the Heralds (17-1), the Lancers lost 22-25.
After the tournament, the Lady Lancers are 5-3 and host Valley Christian of Ontario on Wednesday.
Sept. 20
Lady Lancers (3-1) Spike La Serna, 3-1
LA PUENTE – The Lady Lancers defeated the La Serna Lancers, 3-1, on Wednesday at the Carroll Center.
Winnng the first two sets was difficult for Amat, but they edged out La Serna in the first with a score of 25-23. But Amat lost the second, 33-35.
La Serna played hard, never staying more than six points behind, but Amat triumphed in the third and fourth sets, 25-20 and 25-19.
Senior Megan Bowcock dominated with five assists and 17 kills on offense, with senior Rachel Seals right behind her with 11 kills.
On defense, junior Delaney Gurol had 26 digs, and Bowcock continued to own on defense with 27 receptions.
The Lady Lancers are now 3-1 and will travel to play in the Mayfair-Valley Christian Tournament this weekend.
Sept. 19
The Lancers (2-1) Struggle to Defeat the OC Knights
ONTARIO — The Lady Lancers traveled to play Ontario Christian on Monday and defeated the Knights, three sets to one.
The Lancers struggled in all four matches against the knights. Although their overall outcome was a win, the Knights didn’t go down easily and their play made sure the scores for each set were tight.
In the first set the Knights played the Lancers close, but the Lancers pulled it off, 25-23.
With a score like 25-22 in the second match, Ontario Christian wasn’t too far behind, and they beat the Lancers, 23-25, in the third set.
In the fourth, and deciding, set, the Lady Lancers won 25-21.
Senior Megan Bowcock contributed to the win with seven assists on offense and junior Jillian Nobles dominated the court with 11 kills.
Junior Delaney Gurol owned the court on defense with 22 digs.
The Lancers are now 2-1 on the season and play La Serna Wednesday. They also play in the Mayfair-Valley Christian Tournament this weekend.
Sept. 15
Lancers Lose, 3-2, at Walnut
WALNUT – Despite outscoring the Walnut Mustangs, the Lady Lancers volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season Thursday in five sets.
The Lancers lost the first two sets of the match, 25-22 and 25-23, but dominated the next two, 25-17 and 25-20. They lost the final set in a tiebreaker, 16-14.
On offense, seniors Megan Bowcock and Amanda Stone led the Lancers. Stone served up 30 assists, while Bowcock led the team with 17 kills. On defense, junior Delaney Gurol made 32 digs.
The Lancers host the La Serna Lancers at the Carroll Center tonight at 5 p.m.
Sept. 6
Lancers Defeat the Monrovia Wildcats, 3-1
MONROVIA – The Lady Lancers easliy defeated the Monrovia Wildcats with outstanding defense and excellent serv ing on Tuesday.
The Lancers lost the first set 20-25, but conquered the Wildcats in the next three with scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 26-24.
Junior Jillian Nobles had 4 assists on offense along with 16 kills and 33 attacks to help contribute to the win.
On defense, Nobles dominated the court once again with four total blocks, accompanied by senoir Leilani Hobayan’s 18 digs.
