If the sidelines looked a little crowded and the cheerleaders a little younger Friday night, it was because the Bishop Amat Dance Team had their annual Youth Spirit Night.
The event is one of the dance and cheer team’s main fundraisers for the year.
Before the night came together, the dance team had their dance clinics throughout the week and the cheerleaders had theirs right before the big performance.
All the mothers at the workshop were just as excited as their children, while giving their full support.
“I like that it keeps the girls active and they’re able to learn together and socialize,” said Barbara Gonzalez, whose daughter Angelina practiced with the dance team throught the week.
Angelina said she was excited to perform.
Barbara Gonzalez said she found out about the camp from her friends who also loved the experience it gave the children.
Mother’s of the dance team helped organize the fundraiser, making sure every dancer was hydrated during the camp and fed after the performance.
“It is always a joy in our hearts watching the girls perform,” said Percy Azarcon, sophomore Alia Azarcon’s mother.
During the camp, the dance team helped about fifty five children prepare for their performance.
They got a lot of experience training children. When one of them needed help, a dance team member was right there to guide them through a specific move, gesture or routine.
No question was too little or unimportant.
They seemed to catch on quickly and appeared to love every moment of it.
The performance pumped up the crowd for the second half of the football game and spirit was shown through every dancer and cheerleader on the field.
In addition to the dance camp, the cheer youth clinic had around eighty five children participate.
The night was an obvious success.
