Mrs. Yvette Salcedo, head of deans at Bishop Amat High School and expecting mother, began her maternity leave last Friday, giving the rest of Bishop Amat’s deans more responsibility.
Mrs. Salcedo will not be gone for long and she plans to return six weeks after the birth of her child, which was said to be due this past week.
With the head of deans gone, the school’s deans — Mr. Joe Canales, Mr. Chris DeVera, Ms. Christine Shaw, and Mrs. Eugenia Yrene — have more to handle, with the help of Mr. Richard Beck and Father Mike Sezzi.
“I’m not sad,” Mrs. Salcedo said. “I love being at work. I know I won’t be gone for long. With regard to my ‘replacement,’ the deans are still in charge and if anything, they report back to Father Mike and Mr. Beck.”
Mr. Joe Canales, who will be one of the deans handed more responsibility while Mrs. Salcedo is gone, said he’s excited for her.
“She is due next week,” he said last week. “I am amazed at how she is still here; it just shows her dedication to her students. It will be a little more challenging with her gone, but I am sure we could do it.”
Ms. Christine Shaw is also one of the other deans that has been handed more responsibility during Mrs. Salcedo’s leave.
“I am excited, happy. She is very happy herself. l love when I see that children are born to good parents, to good families,” she said. “This is going to be an interesting six weeks without her. Mrs. Salcedo told me that if anything goes wrong, here at Amat, that I should contact her.”
Mrs. Salcedo is the third teacher at Bishop Amat to go on maternity leave. She joins English teachers Mrs. Jackie Rogers and Mrs. Courtney Leeman.
