Bishop Amat softball defeats St. Paul to maintain first in league

Despite seeing its four-run lead whittled down by the end, Bishop Amat Lancers Varsity still held off St. Paul for a 4-3 victory on Thursday.  

St. Paul scored three runs in the seventh inning, but The Lady Lancers still managed to pull out the victory.  

The Lady Lancers got things started in the second inning when Sophomore Mia Cortez homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Senior Amanda Hernandez toed the rubber for The Lady Lancers. She lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out four.

“This was my last time playing St. Paul,” Hernandez said. “I wanted to win and play my A-game.”

The Lady Lancers smacked one home run on that day. While Cortez went deep in the second inning.

Sophomore Desiree Marin went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Bishop Amat Lancers Varsity in hits.
The Lady Lancers continue to fight for league champs with only three games left. Their next game will be against St. Joseph.
