Bishop Amat hosted it’s last Open House of the school year Jan 9 in it’s very own Carroll Center to give the future students and parents a feel of the financial and campus life.
Our very own Principal Richard Beck and Ms. Deborah Oswald gave speeches on the academics, the athletics, the campus and the financial information. The prospective students and their family were given a brochure/pamphlet and some of our very own students were kind enough to participate in greeting and giving out these pamphlets.
Junior Sage Garcia and seniors Matthew Zahn and Jordan Abryelle were all guest speakers during this speech giving the kids am inside on what it is like to attend Bishop Amat.
“This past open house provided for the prospective student’s an opportunity to hear how we enjoy our high school experience at Bishop Amat. Sometimes when middleschoolers hear adults speak , they can’t connect,” said Garcia. “But when they hear us, the students talk, they are a little more attentive and listen to what we have to say and the prospective athletes got to meet their future coaches.”
Ms. Josie Saik was also at the open house. She was there to supervise the currently enrolled Amat students and welcomed the parents and new students.
“Open House is intended to show the atmosphere is about and many people have misconceptions of the school because of the location that the school is in when in reality it is a good school,” said Saik. “We have a family environment here and thats what sets up apart from school.”
Amat students enjoyed helping out with the last Open House of the 2013-2014 school year. It was successful and very inviting to the students and parents.
“As a student at Amat, I feel it is important to reach out to the future students and their parents in order to tell them about my great experiences so far at Amat,” said Garcia. “Volunteering at open house allows me to talk to future students and answers any questions they might have and by doing this I am able to give back to the community in a small way.”
One of the dance performers also commented on the last open house. Erika Santiago said that their performance brought attention to the dance program at Bishop Amat.
“Showing them how we perform in front of everyone isn’t easy, but it shows our talents and some of the things we do during football games, rallies, and so on,” said Santiago.
