Miley Cyrus has gone from being one of the most glorified Disney pop stars to one of the most entertaining train wrecks to watch in Hollywood.
Cyrus has recently been a tabloid thrill with her choice of provocative clothing, the chopping off of her trademark hair and her salacious stunts at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Everyone has heard about the pop star’s performance at the VMA’s, which consisted of Cyrus singing with teddy bears, gyrating her hips around other women and stripping off her clothes to sing with Robin Thicke.
“Honestly, if that performance was called talent I’m sure we could all become pop stars,” said senior Ivanna Magana.
Even if one did not see the actual performance, there was good reason to why.
“I did not see the awards but I have heard and seen pictures,” said Mr. Mark Verti. “I knew she gave a bad performance and didn’t want to see her make a fool of herself.”
Cyrus first exploded onto the Hollywood scene when she scored herself a hit TV show, Hannah Montana, which co-starred her father Billy Ray Cyrus.
Billy Ray has been quoted as saying that he is proud of his daughter and she is simply trying to shed her Disney image.
It’s working.
“One day I was watching Hannah Montana on Disney Channel and I remember thinking to myself how I wanted to be Miley Cyrus so bad,” said senior Briana Gonzalez. “Now when I see her in the entertainment world, I think to myself why on earth would I want to be this train wreck.”
The MTV awards was not the first reason that people started talking about Cyrus.
“Personally, I’ve never been a fan of Miley but I think everything started when she was caught smoking,” said junior Brianna Ochoa.
Back in 2010, Cyrus was photographed smoking a bong.
“It seems like Miley is having an identity crisis and just needs to get her priorities straight before acting out all crazy,” said Ochoa.
Cyrus seemed to have it all on Disney Channel: a hit TV show, world tours, movies, lunch boxes and even a clothing line.
Since then she has made blockbuster movies, got back into music, and was engaged to actor Liam Hemsworth.
“Miley and Liam were honestly so cute and I actually thought they would last up until the awards,” said Magana.
With her provocative clothing and sudden hair transformation, Cyrus has turned into a whole new person.
“I liked Miley with the long hair, not this boy haircut,” said senior Quinn Shaughnessy. “It’s not attractive.”
This summer, Cyrus ditched her long locks for a bleached-short pixie hairstyle.
“If it was a different star the hair would be a different story but her racy clothing makes it seem worse,” said Shaughnessy.
Cyrus has also developed new moves. She went from doing the hoedown throwdown to the new found dance craze twerking.
“All I remember was Miley throwing herself everywhere on stage, that wasn’t even twerking,” said Ochoa.
Ochoa was referring to the awards. After the awards, Thicke’s family responded in anger because of Cyrus “twerking” on the married R&B singer.
As for the pop star’s parents, they have come out to the public with total support for their daughter. Billy Ray says he is proud of her.
Other parents are not responding well to this “new” Cyrus.
“As a father, I do not like the way Miley is handling herself, she can do it in a ladylike manner instead of acting like she is now,” said Mr. Verti.
People like to think the Disney Cyrus and this new Cyrus are two different people.
According to the pop star’s Twitter, she is happy with her performances and recent stunts and does not care about others’ opinions.
But to many Cyrus seems to be on a downward spiral.
“Miley has so many fans who idolize her and now I don’t think those little girls should be fans of her,” said Mr. Verti
