WHITTIER- The Bishop Amat Lady Lancers (22-5) lost in the second round of CIF playoffs, 4-3, to the La Serna Lancers (20-7) on May 21.
Bishop Amat scored early in the second inning after Victoria Saucedo hit a double and later scored on a single from Larissa Munoz, which gave them the lead, 1-0.
La Serna’s Jamie Wren hit a line drive to right field that went over the glove of Amanda Sanchez and since there was no fence, the ball rolled far enough for Wren to round the bases and tie the score, 1-1.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Bishop Amat’s Brandy Galaviz hit an infield single and two runs scored due to an error on the throw to first. Score is now 3-1, Bishop Amat.
La Serna tied the score again after a double, an error by the left fielder, and a blooper to left field.
In the bottom of the seventh, La Serna had an opportunity to win the game after a lead-off single, but then they bunted the ball in the air and Bishop Amat was able to turn the double play and send the game to extra innings.
Bishop Amat couldn’t get anything going for them in the eighth.
La Serna started the bottom of the eighth with a single, then followed by a walk. The runners advanced into scoring position after a grounder to first. Bishop Amat intentionally walked the next batter which loaded the bases with two outs.
Then, La Serna’s Aubree Sands hit a single to the right field gap and drove in the game winning.
Bishop Amat’s run in the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoffs ended in the second round.
