For those who can’t handle the scares of Knotts Berry Farm’s annual Knotts Scary Farm, Disneyland offers a festive family-friendly environment without the frights at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.
On select nights from September through November, Disney hosts a familiar Disneyland Halloween event. The event changes little from the year to year, but continues to draw big crowds for a festive night.
Greeted by smiling Jack O’ Lanterns, Disney welcomes guests to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party with a spooky tone but never a scare. The event features a special fireworks show, parade, character meet and greets, decorated buildings, themed rides, and plenty of candy to grab.
Starting in Town Square and Main Street USA, this years Mickey Mouse head pumpkins are more vibrant and colorful, flickering on lamp posts, adding some seasonal flare.
Before the Boo To You parade, one of Disney’s best, the Headless Horseman makes his not-quite midnight ride down Main Street.
The only new addition to the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 2012 is the much hyped dance group, Creeper Crew. This hip hop inspired group breaks into a routine after the Horseman’s ride down Main Street, inviting guests of all ages to join in the Not So Scary Street Jam by learning a dance set to the Disney Channel created song, “Calling All the Monsters”. It’s a moment that may have been added just to burn off kids sugar rush.
The Happy HalloWishes, a Halloween spin off of the nightly Wishes fireworks show, is definitely the highlight of the night. This spectacle in the sky is entertaining and more interactive, encouraging guests to scream along.
And of course, there’s lots and lots of candy. Cast members located at candy stops hand out tasty treats including Crunch, Snickers, Kit Kat, M&M’s, Reese’s cups, and even Apple Crisps shaped like different Disney characters. Don’t ever say Disney didn’t try to offer the healthy option.
Needless to say, there it quite a lot of events packed into one little night, leaving room for not a single dull moment. WIth thousands of guests leaving with their stomachs full and smiles on their faces, Disney can only get more creative from here.
