With some thrilling moments and terrific acting, “Apollo 18” appeals, but fails to satisfy viewers.
Gonzalo López-Gallego (“Nomadas”) directs his first English film with a script written by Brain Miller. The film displays a crew of four astronauts who were sent to the moon to place detectors to notify the U.S. of any impending ICBM attacks from the USSR. It seems like a simple mission, until an event occurs that turns this mission into a horrible nightmare.
The cast included: Lloyd Owen (Commander Nathan Walker), Ryan Robins (Lieutenant Colonel John Grey), and Warren Christie (Captain Benjamin Anderson).
Lopez-Gallego’s directing is quite captivating, but isn’t enough to save this film. The absurdness of the whole movie was just too much to bear. The plot was ridiculous and didn’t bring any justice to the film.
However, the script flowed well, and the characters brought a sense of reality to the film by displaying sincerity bringing life to the movie.
Warren Christie (“Alphas”) shined throughout this film, definitely bringing a sense of real into the film.
Overall, the film was average. Even though the directing was standard, the script flowed, and the film had some moments of glory, it was still disappointing.
The film didn’t live up to its hype and was nothing special, but people should still give Lopez-Gallego a chance and watch it, for it’s his first full-length English film.
