Bishop Amat students are preparing for the upcoming production, Reginald Rose’s “Twelve Angry Jurors.”
They held auditions on September 1 in the Performing Arts building (PAB).
The scenario of the play is based off a young man who is accused of murdering his father, and twelve jurors are trying to find a verdict.
Throughout their deliberation, not a single juror can agree because they’re battling their own inner demons. Several of the jurors have conflicts trying to reason the verdict because of discrimination against the defendant’s ethnicity, background information, and the elements that make him.
The jurors are intolerant of others’ opinions: the wealthy with reasoning and logic, people who can relate with the criminal, and also a gentleman who sees all sides of every question and constantly seeks the truth.
Currently Bishop Amat’s drama club and the performers are working every day from three to five. Bishop Amat’s drama director, Mrs. Busser, has been planning this production since the summer.
“Over the summer I kept up with the Casey Anthony trials, and it became my inspiration for this year’s fall production,” said Mrs. Busser.
The students, like Senior Lisette Gonzalez, are really committed to making the production one of the best one they ever performed.
“I am really excited and stoked about this year’s fall production, because there is a lot of potential and talent,” said Gonzalez. “There is so much to be done and only a short amount of time to do it, so we’ll see how the outcome is.”
Rehearsals will be ending shortly, and opening night will be held late October.
