Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, generosity, and a chance to reflect on what is most important in one’s life, as well having an opportunity to eat a lot of food.
Families all over the United States celebrate this holiday to spend time with family and friends, and give thanks for our freedom and health.
Some Bishop Amat students shared what they enjoy the most of the holiday.
“My favorite part of thanksgiving is eating all the yummy, delicious food,” said senior Miraya Reynosa.
Senior Andrew Rivera explained that his favorite part of Thanksgiving is being with family.
“I really enjoy seeing all of my cousins on Thanksgiving, because it gives me a chance to see and spend time with them,” said Rivera.
Other students said that both family and food is what makes Thanksgiving a special holiday, which is the reason why they enjoy it so much.
“My favorite part of Thanksgiving is everything about it, the food and spending time with my family,” senior Janelle Gutierrez.
Many people see Thanksgiving as a time for pigging out, instead of being a day that where people should thank God for all of our wonderful gifts and blessing he has bestowed on us.
Besides being thankful for family friends, there are other things people give thanks for such as health, finding jobs in today’s economy, being able to be with a significant other, or simply given the opportunity to wake up every morning.
Thanksgiving is also a time to keep up family traditions and make new ones.
“I spend the first half at my house with my mom’s side of the family and then spend the nighttime at my dad’s side of the family,” said Reynosa.
Other families create fun and exciting traditions to make the holiday even more enjoyable.
“One tradition we do is my cousins and I have a pumpkin pie eating contest, I expect to win this year,” said Rivera.
From giving thanks, to eating till ones stomach hurts, Thanksgiving is a time to truly reflect on life and to live in the thankful moment.
