Freshmen gathered in the Carroll Center for their first retreat at Amat as a class on October 13.
Students gathered in homeroom to start off the October morning to take the Score Write writing test, and then freshmen proceeded to the Carroll Center, while sophomores and juniors stayed in homeroom to take PSATs.
Campus Minister Ms. Nicole Pfester and her senior volunteers led the freshmen in a prayer service about the creation of the world.
In four different groups, freshmen listened to a self-esteem talk, participated in small groups, wrote letters to troops and played community games.
The whole purpose of the day was for freshmen to become more comfortable with each other.
“Getting to know more about my classmates and getting to meet with the seniors who had great advice for the years to come was my favorite part of the retreat,” said freshman Pauleen Balino.
Some students said they enjoyed the day’s events.
“It was a lot of fun participating with them especially since most of them have a good sense of humor,” said freshman Marissa Falla. “They made it a great time.”
While most seniors either slept in or visited the college of their choice, some seniors gave up their day off to dedicate their time, effort and energy to make this retreat memorable.
“The biggest reward was getting to know the class and the kind of people in it,” said senior Nick Casarez. “This allowed me to see that the future of Amat is in good hands. It also gave me a different view of the freshman.”
To conclude the day, Father Mike Sezzi presided in a class mass.
