Boys’ Soccer playoff preview

Bishop Amat’s Boys’ Soccer team made an unexpected late-season push to earn a spot in the CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs, where they will travel to face West Torrance Friday.

The team had a record of 7-14 (3-5), but earned third place in the Del Rey League to automatically qualify for the postseason, even with their losing record.

After all the games, the Lancers and Bishop Montgomery were tied for third place in League, and both teams scored an equal amount of goals after the two season matchups (1-3 and 4-2).

To decided who would advance to playoffs, the schools agreed to a “playoff” game at a neutral sight, Salesian High School last Wednesday.

The game was scoreless through regulation and two overtime periods, but juniors Edgar Figueroa and Havier Zaragoza were able to score to life the Lancers 2-0 over Bishop Montgomery.
The Lancers are expected to gain momentum from that game, which will hopefully translate to wins and a deep playoff run.
