LA PUENTE – After Bishop Amat Head Coach Steve Hagerty saw his decision to go for it on fourth down early in the third quarter despite being in field goal range fail, Serra seemed to flip a switch and scored 28 straight points to defeat Bishop Amat 28-12 on Friday.

The Lancers defense dominated the first half as the Bishop Amat had 6-0 lead at halftime. The offense had opportunities to get touchdowns but had to settle for field goals.

Early in third quarter Amat faced a fourth down at the Serra 27 yard line. Instead of kicking a field goal, the Coach Hagerty opted to go for it.

The Lancers failed to convert and that was all the momentum Serra needed. Serra went on to score 28 unanswered points.

The Amat defense struggled in the second half due to the offense struggling to stay on the field and produce points.

Blake Archuletta had a shoulder in injury and did not start but appeared on one series.

Jacob Amaro started in Blake Archuleta’s place and went 19-34 for 220 yards.

Running back Dominic Barrera had 15 carries for 53 yards.

Jarren Ford had four catches for 44 yards.

The Lancers face Alemany next week in a must win game for them if they have any hopes of making playoffs.
