Evening of Theatre

The crowd was filled with supportive students and proud family members anxiously waiting with cameras ready in hand. The stage went dark as the stage crew quickly began setup for the evening’s first act. Hostesses Micaela Martinez and Rikiana Denning captured the spotlight, as they introduced the first act of the night, senior Verina Torres’ cover of “Ghost” by Ella Henderson.

Throughout the night, members of the Amat family performed their talents, ranging from covering hit songs, to acting original skits, to stand-up comedy. The audience shared their support through applause, and laughter at the appropriate moments.

The performers, despite their nervousness, beautifully displayed their wide range of talents.

Senior Samantha Quick performed two songs over the course of the night, including her own original song and a cover.

“I was extremely nervous to be performing something I wrote myself,” Quick said, while looking relieved and happy. “It was a rush of nerves, but luckily I’ve had experience with singing in front of others, since I’m in the Lancer Chamber Singers. I’m just relieved I didn’t let my nerves get the best of me.”

Samantha Quick has been a member of the Lancer Choir since her sophomore year, and a member of the Chamber Singers since last year. Unfortunately, this was her last year participating in the Evening of Theater.

Sophomore Brandyn Straunghan participated for the first time in Evening of Theater. He performed a cover of Maroon 5’s, his favorite band, hit song titled “Sugar.”

“I’ve been singing since I was about three years old, and it was just something I wanted to share with the school,” Straunghan said.

He shared that Maroon 5 was his favorite band, and he closely identifies with the lead singer’s, Adam Levine, style of singing.

“The song is very inspirational, and the lyrics are very true,” Straunghan said. “My favorite thing about tonight was seeing my family and friends in the crowd supporting me and being able to show them the work I do.”

The support for Brandyn and the rest of the performers, singers, and comedians, was evident throughout the family, friends, and Amat family.
